Srinagar, July 10 (KNO) : The protest sit-in organized by People United Front (PUF), seeking tunnel for Karnah and Gurez entered into second day on Wednesday and people from different walks of life participated in it and expressed their solidarity with the cause. Those who visited the sit-in site included students, lawyers, traders, members of civil society and prominent citizens from Karnah and Gurez. Thanking those who showed solidarity with the cause, AIP President Er Rasheed as per a statement issued to KNO urged state and Union governments not to underestimate and undermine the strength, power and worth of common man. “Government must listen to peaceful voices and if such voices go unheard it will create serious negative ramifications. While people need to speak in one voice against injustices they face, government must change its behavior and should discharge its duties without politicizing everything,” he said. Er Rasheed while talking to various media persons said that politicizing every issue and trying to create or find a political angle in issues of public interest is dangerous for the entire system and the society. “AIP is always ready to co-operate with other political parties on issue basis to ensure that justice is done. Since our sufferings and issues are common as such finding common minimum ground to address grievances should be priority of all forces”. AIP president added that “we are ready to join hands with various political parties who really want sufferings of people of Karnah, Gurez and other remote areas should end.” He also questioned national political parties for ignoring the sufferings of people of border areas and said that these parties have often made tall claims about caring for the sufferings of people of J&K but when in power they show their colonial mindset. Er Rasheed also expressed deep shock over loss of lives three precious lives in Tangdar who were electrocuted just due to negligence of PDD department. Seeking ex-gratia and other genuine benefits for the families of victims, Er Rasheed urged Governor Satpal Malik to prove his words and initiate an immediate, sincere and time bound enquiry to find by whose negligence the three innocent civilians lost their lives. Er Rasheed also brought in the notice of Governor Satpal Malik the issue of tragic incident at Tangdar and sought ex-gratia for the family of next of kin and also sought stern action against those whose negligence resulted in the painful tragedy.(KNO)
